A simulation-based comparative evaluation of transport protocols for SIP
نویسندگان
چکیده
Research presented in this paper uses the Network Simulator, ns2, to investigate the direct effects and subsequent consequences associated with the use of different transport protocols in a SIP context. Specifically, we seek to perform a comparative evaluation of UDP, TCP and SCTP based on a model simulating a scenario most likely to benefit from congestion control and error correction mechanisms associated with the reliable transport protocols. The overall aim of this paper is to make a contribution to the information available for the appraisal of such protocols in respect of real world implementations. q 2005 Elsevier B.V. 0 System - Level Modeling and Evaluation of Network Protocols
Since the first large-scale computer network was built in the early 1960s, the protocol design problem has become a more important issue to efficiently coordinate distributed system nodes. Recently, in response to the fast growing demand for connecting various devices with current network infrastructures, many intricate protocols have been designed to support communications across such heteroge...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluations for Multimedia Applications over Pr - Sctp
As multimedia applications over the Internet proliferate, the efficient transport of both the signaling and multimedia data becomes increasingly important. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP), the two most widely used but limited transport protocols, are not well suited to contemporary multimedia applications involving digital voice, audio and video communicatio...
متن کاملA Novel Comprehensive Taxonomy of Intelligent-Based Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks
Routing in ad-hoc networks, specifically intelligent-based ones, is a highly interested research topic in recent years. Most of them are simulation-based study. Large percentages have not even mentioned some of the fundamental parameters. This strictly reduces their validity and reliability. On the other hand, there is not a comprehensive framework to classify routing algorithms in wireless sen...
متن کاملSignalling Transport Protocols
SCTP is a newly developed transport protocol tailored for signalling transport. Whereas in theory SCTP is supposed to achieve a much better performance than TCP and UDP, at present there are no experimental results showing SCTP’s real benefits. This paper analyzes SCTP’s strengths and weaknesses and provides simulation results. We implemented SIP on top of UDP, TCP and SCTP in the network simul...
متن کاملDetecting Denial of Service Message Flooding Attacks in SIP based Services
Increasing the popularity of SIP based services (VoIP, IPTV, IMS infrastructure) lead to concerns about its security. The main signaling protocol of next generation networks and VoIP systems is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Inherent vulnerabilities of SIP, misconfiguration of its related components and also its implementation deficiencies cause some security concerns in SIP based infra...
